Ulster Scottish Pipe Band Warms Up For World Championship With GAIF Performance

July 11, 2024

The Ulster Scottish Pipe Band will be giving a pair of special performances on Sunday, July 28, at the 10th Annual Great American Irish Festival. The Ulster Scottish Pipe Band is comprised of two competition bands: the Grade 3 Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, and the Grade 5 Thomas I Hall Memorial Pipe Band. Both bands will compete in the Great American Irish Festival EUSPBA Sanctioned Bagpipe Competition. Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, which will perform at the contemporary stage immediately following the Mass and will proceed from there to the traditional stage for a second performance, was formed in 1922, making it one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States. It is a Grade 3 competition band and after competing at the Great American Irish Festival, the band will be traveling to Scotland to compete at the World Pipe Band Championships. The band is under the direction of Pipe Major Dave Hall and Drumming Instructor Derek Cooper and is located just outside of Philadelphia, PA. Recently, Ulster was honored to be featured on the cover of the Eastern United States Pipe Band Association's Magazine, "The Voice" and has enjoyed numerous competitive victories over the years. The band was the Grade 3 EUSPBA Champion in 2008.
